Some Cyperaceae , like Cyperus , are typical for tropical/subtropical areas; others are widespread in cold and temperate climate. Cotton-grass belongs to the latter group. Cotton-grasses grow mostly in the tundra and on bogs within boreal (northern) forest belt. In our relatively southern area cotton-grass is a rarity. Morning on the Ponkapoag Bog
