These unusually looking leaves with coarse gland-tipped teeth might belong to the willow described from Penobscot River, Maine by Fernald as S. coactilis . Later, however, S. coactilis was treated as only a variant of silky willow. This plant is a propagation of the clone grown a while ago at the Arnold Arboretum as S. coactilis (collected in 1976 from the area around the type locality).
