It has been demonstrated with radioactive isotope markers that pinesap plants receive nutrition right from tree roots using fungus hyphae (thread-like parts of fungus) as pipes, the fungus reaching trees as well as the parasitic plants with its hyphae. This clump was found on a hill top in an old white pine and Norway spruce plantation with some pitch pine.
