It has been demonstrated with radioactive isotope markers that pinesap plants receive nutrition right from tree roots using fungus hyphae as pipes (the fungus reaches trees as well as the parasitic plants with its hyphae). This clump found on a hill top in an old white pine / European spruce plantation with some pitch pine.
