The bud scale consists of two inseparable prophylls. The first cataphyll is non-growing, scarious, with hairs at the margin, round (this can be observed when it is separated and spread). The second cataphyll in this sample is partially green and growing. The next following ("normal") leaves are completely glabrous, serrulate at margin.
