Whorls of pogonia sterile plants look somewhat like those of sterile Indian cucumber root, Medeola virginiana . Curiously, the two look-alikes are often found growing close together. However, if you compare them closely, you will notice much difference. In this photo the orchid is on the right. Medeola leaves are darker, narrower, attenuating in a long point.
