The lower flowers in the spadix are perfect (bisexual): each consists of a pistil and 6 stamens and produces a fruit. The upper flowers often consist of only stamens, while their pistils are underdeveloped. The cross-pollination is achieved, as the pistils in each developing inflorescence ripe earlier than the anthers.
