Most flowers in the spadix are perfect (bisexual): each consists of a pistil and 6 stamens and produces a fruit. Flowers at the apex often consist of only stamens, while their pistils are underdeveloped. The cross-pollination is achieved because pistils in each developing inflorescence ripen earlier than anthers.
