Cross-leaved milkwort is an annual of wet pine woods that grows on peat or sand. Its name describes its leaves arranged in whorls of four. It is now considered extirpated in Maine, threatened in Maryland, endangered in Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
