Greene's rush belongs to the group of rushes whose flower/fruit is subtended by two minute bracteoles. These are not to be confused with large bracts that wrap the entire inflorescence. In Greene's rush the bract is mostly single, stiff, erect. As in other rushes, the perianth consists of two series of three segments each. The segments can be even called petals and sepals.
