Perhaps the most exquisite of the native orchids, white fringed orchid produces large spikes of snow-white long-spurred flowers. It can grow in wet woods, wooded swamps, and on bogs. It grows both in the shade and in the open. The shaded part of the population unexpectedly went into bloom some ten days earlier than the group in the open.
