August 1, Myles Standish State Forest, Carver
It is difficult to name a flowering plant that looks more modest than this little annual gentian. Its wiry stems are only some 5-10 cm tall, opposite leaves are reduced to tiny inconspicuous scales, minute yellowish flowers look more like flower buds, each only about 5 mm long. Found on the edge of a moist meadow crossed by a small powerline.
