Blue Hills Reservation, Braintree
An inhabitant of pond shores and river banks, mermaidweed, like a true mermaid, can live both in and out of water. It produces a whole range of differently shaped leaves from serrulate (minutely toothed, as here) to pectinate (comb-like, similar to those in P. pectinata).
