Mt. Holyoke Range State Park, Amherst
In all the anemones, involucre (a leafy wrapping) is very remote from the flower due to a tall peduncle. In this species we see both the involucre (at the very bottom) and additional involucels up on each of the peduncles. The fruiting heads are up to 1.5 cm thick, prickly with diverging styles.
