June 28, Bare Mountain, Mount Holyoke Range State Park, South Hadley
This fern of acidic bedrocks is an arctic-alpine species--circumpolar and also occurring in mountainous regions of Asia. Its species epithet is a misnomer given early on by Carl Linnaeus, as he erroneously believed that the plant at his disposal originated from the Island of Elba.
