Naturalized English oak is not so common in our area. In eastern Massachusetts, we have spotted it mostly in coastal situations. Its acorns are on long stalks--peduncles. The native white oak ( Q. alba ), which may be confused with English oak, has sessile acorns (except vary rare occasions). In Massachusetts, the only other oak producing acorns on long peduncles is swamp white oak ( Q. bicolor ).
