July 1,
Weir River Estuary, Hull
Mixed with grass. Leaves (those with silvery margins) opposite, sessile, linear to narrowly lanceolate, aggregated at proximal 1/3 of plant, often basal, typically canescent or sericeous abaxially and sericeous/tomentose (hairs white or gray) adaxially. Trichome density is considerably variable. In this and some other Massachusetts populations, hairs were not masking the adaxial leaf surface. This might be within the species' variability range or else attributed to hybridization with another, partially sympatric cottonweed Froelichia floridana. Flower stalks are starting to develop.
