November 10, Schenob Brook Fen, Sheffield
Fen margin at roadside (tamaracks are in the background). One of the parent species, white willow and its hybrids were once planted in the area in large amounts; now they have become abundant in the wild. By the structure of the flowering buds, the hybrid is somewhat intermediate between the two species. These hybrids appear to be under-reported. According to G. Argus, samples of S. ×jesupii are often misidentified in herbaria as S. alba, S. euxina, S. ×fragilis, or S. lucida (FNA).
