Inland plants of Amelanchier exhibiting andropetaly (pollen-bearing petals) were traditionally treated as A. stolonifera f. micropetala ; recently they have been included with A. nantucketensis ; however, as opposed to coastal A. nantucketensis , these have pubescent ovaries. Their taxonomic status remains unclear, and we cannot exclude a possibility that their treatment as a variety of A. spicata (= A. stolonifera ) is more correct. We are treating them here for the time being in the rank of a distinct species.
