A stemmed pale purple violet with a large spur; in Massachusetts growing in western/central counties, east to Middlesex and Essex, absent from southeastern part of state. Var. adunca is of wide North American distribution, as opposed to var. bellidifolia found only in British Columbia, Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming (both varieties are present there).
