Umbrella magnolia is native to southeastern United States. According to the Massachusetts County Checklist (2011), it was known to be introduced to 5 Massachusetts counties: Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, Middlesex, and Plymouth. Later records indicate its presence in the wild in another 4 counties: Franklin (Flora of Franklin Co.), Suffolk, Norfolk, and Bristol (our own photo records). This photo shows it naturalized in vicinity of MIT Endicott House (Norfolk County).
