This crocus has been considered a subspecies of C. vernus; however, its chromosome number is different, which prevents hybridization. C. albiflorus may look similar to white-colored varieties of C. vernus but is distinguished by smaller flowers (perianth segments only 15-30 mm long (30-55 mm in C. vernus) and narrower leaves (only 1-3 mm wide).
