October 2, Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, Boston
Planted. Seedlings once distributed across Massachusetts and beyond by the Arnold Arboretum in a special "Dividend Program"; however, many of distributed young trees were later reported dead. Hopefully, all of them peacefully died and never escaped cultivation in this country. This young tree was photographed on the Arboretum grounds back in 2005; see photo of the same tree approaching its death in 2021. Lucklily, the Boston climate is not right for this magnificent tree from North Korea and Northeast Siberia, where it is capable of growing in absence of all other tall trees.
