Blue Hills Reservation, Milton
Both peduncle and pedicels are rather stout already at the flowering time; pedicels become even thicker later on. Flowers at top have lost all their stamens and petals; the rest of flowers also have fewer stamens and petals than there should be. Each flower has sustained more damage on one side, so that pistils are exposed. The flower normally consists of 4-6 early deciduous sepals, 4-10 slender petals, and up to 28 stamens.
