April 8, Great Esker Park, Weymouth
As a member of the buttercup family, liverleaf has an indeterminate number of stamens (10-30), its petals wanting, colored sepals petaloid (i.e., looking like petals), their number also indeterminate (5-12). What looks like sepals are actually whorled leaves (bracts) at the summit of the peduncle (flower stalk). A cluster (also indeterminate number) of separate small pistils (carpels), each containing a single ovule, occupies the center of the flower.
