Known as banded woolly bear (woollybear) or woolly worm, Isabella tiger moth larva can be found in many temperate and cold regions including the Arctic. The larva emerges from its egg in the fall and overwinters (freezes solid until spring) at the larval stage. It survives by producing a cryoprotectant. This is a generalistic feeder on many plants, herbaceous and woody.
