Organs observed in-between calyx lobes ("additional" narrow lobes) are bracteoles forming epicalyx--a feature typical for many plants of rose family. Plants belonging to the native species W. fragarioides, however, are lacking the epicalyx (or having it only rudimentary), which helps reliably differentiate between the native and introduced Waldsteinia.
