Hybridization between native and introduced forget-me-nots in North America could have been overlooked. Hybrids of M. scorpioides and M. laxa were described under the name Myosotis ×suzae Domin, though this name cannot be applied to American plants, since it refers to the European subspecies, M. laxa ssp. cespitosa (Schultz) Hyl. ex Nordh. as one of the parents. However, at least some features of the European hybrids may also be applicable to American hybrids: partial sterility (producing no or fewer than normal number of seeds per flower) and flower diameters intermediate between diameter ranges of parental species. Discrepancy between flower size ranges provided in American and European literature may indicate that hybrids could have been taken in North America for one or the other parent. It is possible that most, if not all of our previous findings of M. scirpoides belong to such hybrids, though as of 2026, the name M. scorpioides is retained here, since designating any of those findings as hybrids requires revisiting pertaining populations.
