Hale Reservation, Dover
Tupelo trees start revealing fall colors earlier than many other trees in New England, especially in habitats where there is lack of water at the end of summer. Their brisk autumn foliage is rival to that of red maples. This tupelo, together with a pitch pine, stands on the higher, rocky bank of Powisset Pond. Photo credit Luba Batuner
