June 14, Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, Boston
Woods in eastern Massachusetts are full of alien invasive Oriental bittersweet, while the American species is impossible to find. These are images of a plant collected in Indiana and cultivated in a pot nursery at the Arnold Arboretum back in the 2000s. Differently from Oriental bittersweet, whose inflorescence is an axillary cyme, the American species displays its flowers in a terminal panicle.
