A clonal long-lived perennial that has been described as both monocarpic (i.e., flowering only once during its lifetime and then dying) and polycarpic. Separate shoots (ramets) within the clone are monocarpic, and in case all of them go into flowering and fruiting simultaneously, the entire clone may die.
