Leaves of a large tree at maturity in July: glabrous, smooth, dark green, with coarse remote blunt teeth and strongly flattened petioles. Leaves of bigtooth aspen also vary, depending on their position in the crown. Those on long shoots are ovate, acuminate, truncate to broad-cuneate at base.
