Douglas firs were mixed with young pines and hemlocks; however, the firs were not so young. Though the majority were only 3-4 m tall, their estimated age was 65-70. We can imagine that about a hundred years ago earlier there probably had existed a single mother-fir. Located somewhere up the slope, it was capable of seed production.
