Tamaracks breaking bud and producing new foliage in spring. A dry branch (at the front right) also belongs to a tamarack. There are long and short shoots in larches; their leaves grow either singly, when spiraling around first-year long shoots, or in bunches, when crowning short shoots, or spurs.
