Pagoda dogwood growing as a singe-stem small tree. It seldom grows to its fancy name in New England, where it is mostly a multi-stem shrub. It is only in the Appalachians that it normally attains the height of up to 25 feet and becomes a tree with a flat top, whose architecture resembles that of a pagoda.
