Pistillate head of flowers--one of the earliest manifestations of spring. This bud has produced some ten flowers, each with two red elongate stigmas. Branchlet glabrous, without stipitate glands characteristic for American hazelnut (no any other trichomes in this individual, though non-glandular ones may be present).
