August 17, Prospect Hill Park, Waltham
Accoding to Fernald (in Asa Gray's Manual of Botany, 1950), stipules in similar D. canescens should be deltoid- to ovate-acuminate or -attenuate, oblique and with one side almost lobed at base..., i.e., definitely asymmetric, which is not a case in these plants.Uncinate hairs are present in both species.
